Evitemos el sufrimiento de animales, dejando de lado la pirotecnia
Ellos son más susceptibles a los ruidos fuertes, sobre todo los perros y animales pequeños.Si los petardos y otros fuegos artificiales detonan cerca de los animales, puede producir daños en sus oídos, incluso provocar pérdida de la audición.
Los juegos pirotécnicos y los petardos, además de representar un riesgo por pérdida de miembros y amputaciones, quemaduras, daños oculares y sordera, entre otras consecuencias en el ser humano, para los animales son una verdadera tortura.
Por esta razón, el Programa Nacional de Control de Zoonosis y Centro Antirrábico Nacional (CAN) insta a tomar conciencia y, de ser posible, dejar de lado estos artefactos que representan un riesgo para las personas y malos ratos para los animales.
Las mascotas sufren en las fiestas de fin de año, debido al exagerado uso de pirotecnia, en especial de las bombas que causan estruendos. Entre las afectaciones que éstas les producen, principalmente, están las relacionadas con su sentido auditivo, como así también miedo, estrés y otros.
Durante las celebraciones de navidad y año nuevo, las mascotas se vuelven nerviosas y temerosas, buscan lugares donde esconderse o cobijarse de los molestos ruidos que ocasionan ciertos fuegos artificiales.
Esto se debe a que, con el sonido de las bombas, las mascotas entran en un estado de excitación total en el que no controlan sus impulsos, por lo que muchos escapan y huyen de la casa. Una vez que están fuera del terreno conocido, pierden su sentido de la orientación y muchas veces no pueden volver a casa.
¿Cómo paliar la situación?
En el caso de los perros, antes del bullicio de las fiestas, podría sacar a pasear a su mascota con la correa puesta para que haga sus necesidades, corra y permanezca más tranquilo.
Posteriormente, se los puede ubicar en una habitación aireada, bien ventilada con su cama, manta, juguetes, agua y comida, en lo posible donde no se escuchen directamente los estruendos de las bombas. Antes que estos estallidos se inicien se puede cerrar ventanas, persianas y puertas, para atenuar el ruido lo más posible.
El uso de los algodones como tapones de oídos para los animalitos es una opción válida para protegerlos del ruido de petardos, pero sin olvidar retirarlos, ya que en caso de olvido pueden generar graves infecciones.
Las bombas suelen poner nervioso y hasta agresivo al animal, por eso no es recomendable irrumpir en la habitación donde se encuentra aislado.
Así también, se sugiere, en lo posible, no sedar al animal, más aún si ya es muy adulto, y bajo ninguna circunstancia sin prescripción de un veterinario.
Alimentación y traslado de mascota en días festivos
Trate de mantener la dieta habitual de su mascota, con pequeños premios de carnes aptas para los mismos. Tenga especial cuidado con los dulces y chocolates, estos alimentos pueden causarle graves daños. Ellos también pueden acabar empachados y con dolor de estómago, llegando incluso a vomitar.
Si tiene que trasladarse a otro punto del país, en el caso de los gatos y debido a su personalidad, lo ideal es dejarlos en la casa al cuidado de una persona responsable. En cuanto a los canes, se recomienda trasladarlos con sistemas adecuados, como pecheras (no collares) y en transportadores acordes a su peso y estatura.

During Christmas and New Year celebrations, pets become nervous and fearful, looking for places to hide or take shelter from the annoying noises caused by certain fireworks.
This is because, with the sound of the bombs, pets enter a state of total excitement in which they do not control their impulses, which is why many escape and flee from the house. Once they are off familiar terrain, they lose their sense of direction and often cannot return home.
How to alleviate the situation?
In the case of dogs, before the hustle and bustle of the holidays, you could take your pet for a walk on a leash so that he can relieve himself, run around, and remain calmer.
Afterwards, they can be placed in an airy, well-ventilated room with their bed, blanket, toys, water and food, if possible where the roar of the bombs cannot be directly heard. Before these bursts start, you can close windows, blinds and doors to attenuate the noise as much as possible.
The use of cotton as earplugs for animals is a valid option to protect them from the noise of firecrackers, but without forgetting to remove them, since if they are forgotten they can cause serious infections.
Bombs usually make the animal nervous and even aggressive, so it is not advisable to break into the room where it is isolated.
Likewise, it is suggested, if possible, not to sedate the animal, even more so if it is already very adult, and under no circumstances without a prescription from a veterinarian.
Pet feeding and transportation on holidays
Try to maintain your pet's usual diet, with small treats of meat suitable for them. Be especially careful with sweets and chocolates, these foods can cause serious harm. They can also end up feeling stuffed and with stomach pain, even vomiting.
If you have to move to another part of the country, in the case of cats and due to their personality, the ideal is to leave them at home in the care of a responsible person. As for dogs, it is recommended to transport them with appropriate systems, such as chests (not collars) and in carriers according to their weight and height.
