DO NOT ABANDON THEM!

This photo, from 1980, reappears every summer. Its author, Manuel Litran, put on a route the corpses of 140 dogs sacrificed in two days after being abandoned by their owners before the holidays. The photographer collected the carcasses of the animals, slaughtered by the animal protection centers, and took them in refrigerated trucks to a motor vehicle circuit, where he placed and photographed them. He says that the night of the photo he couldn't sleep.

Prolonged confinement is one of the worst punishments a dog can receive. Many shelters and kennels have no other option, but you can always release your stress by giving them one or more daily walks, where in addition to exercise they will have human contact.

Apparently there are people who believe that the municipal agencies that take in the animals keep them until they age and die a natural death even if no one adopts them. So that everyone knows it is not like that. And simply opening the door or raising it to the roof or tying it in the patio because you no longer want to take care of it or it has already become heavy or broke a shoe, is not giving it a better destination. A pet is not a game, do not abandon them, there is no reason that justifies your abandonment.

Taking an animal shelter as the main source of income has been another mistake that has been repeated in the past and continues to be repeated, that is why the experts agree that you should not make a living from this, but take it as voluntary work.

Fortunately, this is not the case for Hernández. Rather, she and the other managers of the Entre Patas shelter are still looking for a space where they can relocate their dogs and that is a place where they can have a full-time guardian.
